Makes Me Wanna Holla

There's alot to be on about. Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, Bharain, Wisconsin, Ohio; people are taking it to the streets to take their countries back! Democracy, or something like it, is sought out all over.

The saddest scariest thing is realizing too late how much capitalism has coopted democracy in the US. When we didn't take it to the streets after the Supreme Court decided who the President would be, all hope seemed lost. When SCOTUS gave corporations certain rights of citizenship in the Citizens United decision (specifically with regard to financial contributions to political campaigns), it was confirmed: all hope is indeed lost.

Corporations generating billions in revenue pay less tax (if any) than you or I--
Since 2009, America’s most profitable companies such as ExxonMobil, General Electric, Bank of America and Citigroup all paid a grand total of $0 in federal income taxes to Uncle Sam. Tax havens alone account for up to $1 trillion in tax revenue lost every decade, money that could be invested in K-12 education, colleges, public health, job creation and hundreds of other worthy public programs. (UsUncut.org)
at the same time that social services programs that provide shelter, sustenance, and nurturance for teens  in the foster care sytem, like the Bridge, which, as reported on CNN is closing its doors after 43 years for want of a few million in operating funds. Like, seriously, less than FIVE million dollars. Seriously? That's probably not even a week's salary for way too many people (think Wall St., and Fortune 500 honchos)- or maybe, Oprah, instead of giving out cars, could flutter a couple of million on them.
Obama seeks to trim $1.1 trillion from the budget in the next ten years by cutting or eliminating over 200 federal programs, many dedicated to social services and education.

Here's an idea: if you're gonna let such obvious income inequality persist, at least TAX the ridiculously wealthy to subsidize the social programs that will be increasingly necessary as the unemployed class expands.   It's NOT as though these outsize profits are NOT being made at Everyman's expense.   People have to be housed and fed whether employed or not. Somebody's gonna have to pay--

But of course, something like that would require a President who actually walked the talk rather than snuggle in bed with the fat cats he railed against.

So there I go, on and on about it.

For some, thank God, hope springs eternal. From flash mobs to Facebook and Twitter, people are collecting and  revolutionizing. Maybe, just maybe, democracy has a chance even here in the US. UsUncut is taking it to the streets on February 26; where will YOU be?
