I"m pretty sure it's unprecedented, the nominee's wife introducing him, but if not that, CERTAINLY, this long, flattering speech introducing the wife of the nominee is unprecedented. It's a smart tactical move, though. There is the very real need to sell White folks on the idea of a Black man for President, and selling them on his wife is probably a need too, especially since she's been cast variously as an "uppity negro" or "angry Black woman" in the media.
